In 1988, when me and my family moved to Josephine County I was a seasonal US Forest Service employee. I was stationed at the Illinois Valley Ranger District and eventually moved out to the Illinois Valley in 1989. I worked in the fire department where we did many spring and fall projects for silvaculoture including brushing and thinning managed units in the forest. I had studied some forestry in college and continued to study when I was in the Forest Service. ... read more

"Many of my friends and supporters have asked who I endorse in the Josephine County commissioner's race. I support Dave Toler. This may raise some eyebrows since I have been a registered Republican for 40 years..."

"Commissioner Toler worked with the City of Grants Pass to provide some key financial incentives for us. More importantly, Commissioner Toler exhibited a high level of support for our company and it was that exuberance that helped convince us that Grants Pass was the place to be."
- John Stadter (John is President and Managing Partner of First Call Resolution. The result was 75 new jobs in 2009 and is projected to be 225 jobs by the end of 2011. )
"Dave Toler was with us from day one in our efforts to re-open the library doors. Without his guidance and strong advocacy as a County Commissioner, it's doubtful that the Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, or Wolf Creek communities would have an open library today."
- Doug Walker (Doug is currently President of Josephine Community Libraries )

Myth Busters
Myth: Dave Toler wants to raise your taxes.
Fact: Dave Toler has stated repeatedly that any future tax increase for Josephine County will have to come from the voters. In fact, Oregon law mandates that any tax increase for County government must be approved by the people. Toler has always stated that he would never increase taxes as a County Commissioner and indeed Oregon law would not allow otherwise.
Myth: Dave Toler didn't have any experience prior to becoming Commissioner.
Fact: Dave Toler worked in management positions for
several organizations from 1996-2006.
He was director of a youth
program, the Rangers, for 7 years, providing after-school and summer
activities that were free to low income youth. The program employed up
to seven staff during the summer.
As a Development Director for Siskiyou
Field Institute, Toler secured over $700,000 in funds for the nonprofit
organization that provides educational opportunities in the field with a
science emphasis for students from K-12, community college, to university level.
Toler also served on the Three Rivers School Board for 10 years. During
his tenure, Three Rivers built two new schools (Fruitdale and Lorna
Byrne) and upgraded all 15 schools in the District.
Toler has also
served on numerous nonprofit boards including President of Womens
Crisis Support Team, Siskiyou Community Health Center, and the Illinoois
Valley Community Response Team.
Myth: If the County would lop off less essential programs such as parks, fairgrounds, libraries, or animal protection, we would save the property taxpayer money.
Fact: None of these programs receive property tax revenue, so cutting them out won't save you a dime. That's because libraries are no longer funded by the County. Parks, Animal protection, and the Fairgrounds are all funded by fees from those who use the programs.
